The Shape of Water

'The Shape of Water' is a Hollywood movie directed by Guillermo del Toro. Movie is about love and affection formed between a housekeeping women of a laboratory and an amphibian creature which was brought to the laboratory. It is the fact that water has no particular shape. It's shape depends on the shape of the container in which it is enclosed. So is the case of love. It doesn't have any particular shape or form. This movie is taking about this particular fairytale love story between a women and an amphibian. This movie had won Academy Awards for the year 2018 for the categories of best picture, best direction, best music (original score).

Main character of the movie is Eliza, which was played by Sally Hawkins. She was a housekeeping women in a secret laboratory. One day an amphibian creature was brought into the laboratory, which

had many extra supernatural powers. Amphibian man was captured by Strickland, whose character was played by Michael Shannon. Relationship started forming between Mute and lonely Eliza and the creature. She started feeding the creature with boiled eggs, played songs for the creature. As their relationship started becoming stronger, she plans to escape the creature from laboratory and take him along with her to home. Movie ends with the death of Eliza, who was trying to help the creature to escape to the water body, which will help it to survive more.

Direction by Guillermo del Toro was brilliant. He was able to show the fantasy love between human and creature, who were mute, brilliantly through their emotions. Also the cast who played those roles (especially Sally Hawkins) had done their acting brilliantly. Cinematography by Dan Laustsen was brilliant. We can see the use of green lights in most of the shots, especially in laboratory shots and shots inside water. He had showcased best lighting skills as the movie was shot mostly indoor or at night or under water.

Eventhough the movie is a fantasy love story between a human and an amphibian, director is focusing on the power of love, which is universal and doesn't have a particular shape. This movie is one of the brilliant production in every aspects.
